What is it about?

A methodology to prepare and measure nanoparticles in biological tissues by the Ion Beam Analysis (IBA) technique Particle-Induced X-ray Emission (PIXE) in conjuction with IBA´s Rutherford Back-Scattering (RBS). In rat lung tissue it was found that TiC is 2-fold more biopersistent than SiC.

Why is it important?

It settles a successful methodology for quantifying nanomaterials in biological tissues.

Perspectives

The methodology has been a landmark for analyzing nanomaterials in complex media (i.e. biological tissues) by IBA techniques.
