What is it about?
The paper recounts the history of the Kalmyk people since their first settlement on the lower Volga. It narrates Kalmyk ethnic identity and its development chronologically, taking into account social structure, religion, historiography, and popular concepts to which the Kalmyks have been subjected, and which they have embraced, in the course of their history.

Kalmyk Cultural Heritage Documentation Project archive
Encompassing a wide range of topics and consisting of more than 2,600 videos, this archive pertains to the endangered culture of two national minorities, namely the Kalmyks in Russia and the Torghuts in China. The Kalmyk/Russian element of this archive, consisting of 2,500 unique videos, is currently the largest video archive pertaining to any ethnic minority in Russia.
