What is it about?

We present a comprehensive method for collecting data with a 3D Body Scanner in a way that is easy to follow and ensure consistency in the results taken.

Why is it important?

When taking measurements with 3D Body Scanning, it is easy to do things differently over time. This causes significant variation in the data collected; for example, a difference in posture changes the hip measurements by a statistically significant amount. Until now no universal and comprehensive protocol for 3D Body Scanning has been provided, but this problem is addressed by this report. This white paper represents the first and most complete guide to conducing 3D Body Scanning, as developed and used by the Apparel Design Engineering research group within the University of Manchester.

Perspectives

This work is incredibly important to everything I do in Ergonomics. Without a methodology that I can use again and again (and get others to use as well) it is impossible to compare data and get meaningful results. For that reason this work is essential!
