What is it about?
Iron oxide has several polymorphic phases, due to its properties the γ-Fe2O3 phase is the most interesting one. There are some studies on metal doping in this material to improve its electrochemical, magnetic and catalytic properties. Iron oxides are also applied as magnetic nanoparticles in biology and medicine. In the aerospace industry it can be incorporated into the propellant composite to improve the burn rate. In this work, the thermal decomposition method of Co (II) acetate impregnated Fe (II) tartrate was used to form the compound γ-CoxFe2-xO3. Through XRD and FT-IR it was verified that the obtained materials have the gamma structure with tetragonal distortion and with the increase of cobalt this tetragonal distortion decreases.
