What is it about?

Around the world, deaths are behaving in a way which had previously been not thought possible. On/off switching is where deaths suddenly jump to a higher level and stay higher for around 12 months before reverting back to the baseline level. This behavior shows spatial spread as is expected from an infectious agent.

Why is it important?

This could well be a documented example of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) priority research Disease X

Perspectives

This behavior also occurs in medical admissions to hospital. Part of a far longer series on this topic available at http://www.hcaf.biz/2010/Publications_Full.pdf
