What is it about?
This is a study on the enhanced performance of the novel concentric shell and tube heat exchanger over the traditional configuration. In this numerical research a simulation of the aforesaid Shell and Double Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger (SDTHX) has been carried out using COMSOL Multiphysics resulting a 35% improvement of heat transfer performance compared to the Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (STHX). This upgraded design provides more area for convection resulting in significant increase of heat transfer which makes it more suitable for commercial and industrial application.

Why is it important?
Heating, ventilation and Air Condition (HVAC) is a vital part of every major industrial process and heat exchanger (HTX) is a critical unit of this system. If the efficiency of the HTX can be improved even by a small percentage overall operational cost can be significantly decreased. However, space is also an indispensable factor to optimize cost. The novel Shell and Double Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger (SDTHX) can provide boosted heat transfer efficacy without occupying extended area. Utilizing this can reduce overall cost of operation and improve performance thus making it an ideal renovation.
