What is it about?

A noise perception study to evaluate a novel quiet design for a propeller for a electrical propelled air vehicle.

Why is it important?

Designing a more efficient, quiet rotorblade not only involves the acoustic optimization approach, but also requires evaluating the perceived noise characteristics by doing a perception study using state of the art simulation facilities.

Perspectives

We found out that theoretically found quieter noise output of the newly designed propeller blade did not translate towards a quieter experience when auralizing the noise signature. For this reason, a holistic approach, including auralization and perception study is needed to foresee all implication of a new design.
