What is it about?

Engine cooling fan noise is becoming increasingly important due to the strict regulations on noise emissions. Manufacturers need to certify their products and, therefore, they must be aware of how the acoustic signature of their products is supposed to change according to both where they test it and in which operating condition they are testing it.

Why is it important?

We investigated the different noise sources of an industrial engine cooling fan under various testing conditions so that every manufacturer can have a guideline and be aware of which part of the noise that is recorded is due to the testing environment installation effects.

Perspectives

This work can eventually lead to a higher awareness in the design of noise reduction strategies since they need to be adapted to the operating condition in which the fan is expected to work for most of its life cycle time.
