What is it about?

Understanding how noise is generated by an aircraft engine is crucial to reduce noise pollution in the vicinity of airports. This study proposes a new way of considering how sound propagates, and is able to precisely account for the effects of engine installation under the wing.

Why is it important?

The hybrid analytical/numerical modelling proposed is fine enough to capture the effect on acoustics of geometric changes while remaining fast enough to be used in an optimisation loop. This method is therefore particularly well suited to the challenges of the industrial sector and may be used in the future design of feature jet-wing architectures.

Perspectives

Writing this article was a great pleasure as it has very conscientious and skilled co-authors with whom I have had long standing collaborations. Being able to study jet noise under the direction of Christophe Bailly during my years at LMFA has been a real pleasure and a great personal enrichment. Thank you Christophe !
