What is it about?

This work is about DBD Plasma actuators. The actuators are used to mimic the effect of tubercles (tubercles are naturally seen on flippers of humpback whale). The proposed shape of actuator successfully generated the tubercle effect on the wing model, and the effect of plasma tubercles on lift and drag are discussed in detail in this paper.

Why is it important?

Research showed that tubercles can be generated using DBD plasma actuators on the wing without any physical modification in the shape. Generally for tubercles, the shape of wing is changed to wavy structure, but using this method (DBD plasma actuators on leading edge), tubercles can be generated on any conventional shape straight leading edge.

Perspectives

We have an idea, and we just start working on it, there is still much work has to be done on plasma tubercles. I hope everyone who is interested in applications of DBD plasma actuators, will find this article very interesting.
