What is it about?
Composite laminates are designed efficiently using mathematical programming, as seen in previous studies. This work improves on old mathematical programming techniques to solve laminate design problems where the plies are made of different materials and thicknesses. The non-linear mathematical functions are linearized with two reformulation techniques, and the optimization problem is solved sequentially to get the best ply fiber orientations and thicknesses.
