What is it about?

This work shows that rotor blade optimisation can be performed efficiently and accurately using a harmonic balance method coupled with an adjoint optimisation technique and full Navier-Stokes simulations. The method is demonstrated using the UH60A blade and a significantly better blade is produced. The use of features like anheral, dihedral, twist, forward and aft sweep, and chord extension are analysed and their impact on the design s quantified.
