What is it about?
We have discovered the law of incipient separation by performing numerical simulations of turbulent flows using RANS. This law of fluid dynamics can be useful as a first-order-approximation in aerodynamic design, prior to simulations and experiments. For example, in order to avoid flow separation the aerodynamicist could be limiting the maximum curved surface's slope to be smaller than its critical value, computed using this law by only knowing the height to length ratio of the curved surface, h/L, and the Reynolds number of the flow based on the curved surface length, Re_L.
