What is it about?
In this study, we demonstrated that the local surface development and resulting laminar–turbulent transition process should be considered in numerical simulations of inflight icing and the resulting aerodynamic performance of an aircraft. We believe that our study makes a significant contribution to the literature because current numerical codes assume a fully turbulent layer and thus cannot account for the effects of the transition. We compared the results of our proposed approach against those of a conventional method and showed that the former agreed more closely with actual experimental results.
