What is it about?
Flow separation over a wall-mounted hump and its control using a sweeping jet (SWJ) actuator is studied numerically using two-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulations. In the present concept exploration study, the SWJ actuator is integrated into the wall-mounted hump model at the upstream of separation point and angled at 30 degrees to the freestream direction. Due to the orientation of the actuator and exit nozzle walls, the jet continuously oscillated between jet in crossflow and jet parallel to flow modes. Generation and interaction of internal flow structures, the jet oscillation process, and the pressure drop mechanism of the SWJ actuator in the presence of separated flow are presented.
