What is it about?
When it comes to CFD simulation of shock waves, these can be either CAPTURED or FITTED. The former approach is by far the most popular among CFD practitioners, but runs into troubles, particularly when unstructured meshes are used. Here we measure the order of convergence of the discrete solution to the compressible Euler equations and show that shock-fitting preserves design order in the entire shock-downstream region, whereas shock-capturing fails to do so.

Why is it important?
Although shock-fitting is an old technique, its use in the unstructured grid framework is quite new. Here we show quantitatively (by measuring the discretisation error and order-of-convergence) that it performs better than shock-capturing also when unstructured grids are used.
