What is it about?
Wind tunnel balances are used to measure forces and moments exerted on aero-models during wind tunnel testing. This work leverages additive manufacturing to be the first to document the viability and performance of a titanium wind tunnel balance. It finds that the titanium balance exhibits comparable performance to a conventionally manufactured state-of-the-art steel balance, which provides compelling evidence for the use of additively manufactured titanium wind tunnel balances.
