What is it about?
In this engineering note, we derive a simple equation which can be used to estimate the range of fuel-based, hybrid-electric, and fully-electric aircraft. For this, a simplified powertrain model is presented, and a constant power-split is assumed. A demonstration case shows that the equation is easy to apply and can help understand the design process of hybrid-electric aircraft.
