What is it about?
Wake vortex encounters close to ground can be especially hazardous due to the proximity of ground and the special behavior of vortices in ground effect. This study reveals that installing a series of plates in front of the runway reduced the severity of wake encounter and improves the subjective hazard perception of pilots.
