What is it about?
The noise emissions of nose landing gears (NLG) are investigated in this paper using four different approaches: 1) full-scale wind tunnel experiments, 2) regional aircraft flyover measurements under operational conditions, 3) computational simulations and 4) noise prediction models. It was found that NLGs emit very strong tonal noise in the flyover tests, most likely due to open cavities. Closing these cavities could reduce the noise emissions of this element considerably.
