What is it about?

This experimental study focused on wind tunnel results that investigated the effect of aspect ratio of wings on simple wing section that employed gurney flaps. The effect of aspect ratio on the performance of the gurney flap was investigated.

Why is it important?

The impetus for this study was to find the influence of three dimensionality on gurney flap performance since the author(s) felt that majority of the gurney flap data available, especially at low Reynolds number, was for airfoils (two-dimensional).

Perspectives

This study provided insight into the performance of gurney flap for low aspect ratio wings. The influence of wing tip vortex, especially at lower aspect ratios, was also investigated using flow visualization setups.
