Three-Dimensional Kinetic Simulations of Carbon Backsputtering in Vacuum Chambers from Ion Thruster Plumes

What is it about?

In this study, we use a fully kinetic pic approach to simulate the plume of a gridded ion thruster to investigate the facility effect, the effect that happens when the thruster is tested in the ground facility. We also simulate how the backsputtered carbon on the wall is deposited on the thruster wall.
