What is it about?

Coaxial electromagnetic plasma accelerators, operating at currents of tens of kiloamperes, generate a high magnetic field that accelerates ions to velocities of tens of kilometers per second to provide spacecraft thrust or high energy plasma beams. The paper presents a simplified model of the plasma acceleration processes allowing the efficiency to be improved and higher velocities to be achieved.
