What is it about?

Center-mounted hollow cathode configuration on a Hall thruster is recently spotlighted. A strong magnetic field on the hollow cathode may affect the ignition and discharge characteristics. We found the applied magnetic field suppresses potential increase, discharge instabilities while prevents the ignition. In addition, influences of flow rate, cathode heater power and anode flow were also revealed.
