What is it about?
At high angle of attack, slender body with pointed fore-body experiences a large amount of side force which many a times become uncontrollable. We have shown the physics behind the generation of the side force at high angle of attack and the mechanism behind the reduction in the side force with the use of a circular ring placed at an axial distance of 3.5 times the diameter of the body from the tip.

Why is it important?
These findings will help in designing better control techniques for the missiles and fighter aircraft that are subjected to fly at high angle of attack even for a very small time.
