What is it about?

Most space missions organized by nonprofits or universities do not receive the funding needed to literally get their mission off the ground. Mission organizers may receive grant funding but usually not enough to cover the full cost of the mission. This paper illustrates other ways in which mission organizers can generate funding, including via philanthropic donations, brand sponsorships, and licensing agreements with media partners.

Why is it important?

Being able to find alternative funding for space missions focused on exploration, science and education is vital to helping them come to fruition. These non-commercial missions are contributing to research that can help Earth and the humans that inhabit it. It is important that these kinds of missions get the funding they need so that the resulting learnings and innovations can be used to help the planet.

We are thrilled that this article has been published and will be shared so that we can help mission organizers at universities and nonprofits get their missions literally off the ground.
