What is it about?

Loss of control in flight is the primary fatal accident category in all sectors of aviation. It has received much focus and attention within the commercial aviation sector but not in general aviation where accident rates are much higher. A detailed analysis of causal and contributory factors using human factors methods has informed for the first time, a definition of loss of control in flight, specifically for general aviation. A practical conceptual framework for loss of control in flight in general aviation has been developed to inform future intervention strategies related to education and training. This will improve understanding of loss of control in flight in the context of general aviation and the framework will enable dominant causal and contributory factors to be incorporated within scenario-based training. Ultimately, such actions have the potential to lower accident rates and save lives.
