What is it about?
This study examines the digital transformation of Colombian organizations during the period 2008-2017, in a sample of firms belonging to the following economic sectors: manufacturing industry sector, trade sector, and services sector. Differences were found in the level of ICT appropriation depending on the economic sector to which the organization belongs, as well as the identification of five variables that influence information and communication technologies adoption: Absorptive capacity, ICT infrastructure, R&D activities, Sector, and Government regulation. The importance of ICT public policies that support decision-making ICT adoption in organizations is highlighted.

Why is it important?
The study shows how the process of digital transformation of Colombian companies has been, highlighting how the use of the Internet varies depending on the economic sector to which the organization belongs. An example of this was perceived in the high use of e-mail in the three economic sectors studied, compared to e-Commerce whose use predominates in the trade sector. Additionally, the analysis suggests that companies must train their employees to acquire digital skills that allow them to face permanent technological change.
