What is it about?

Low blood sugar occurs with exercise in people with type 1 diabetes. We show that reducing insulin infusion by 80 percent 90 minutes before the start of exercise helps prevent low blood sugar during exercise.

Why is it important?

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is a barrier to exercise for people with diabetes on insulin therapy. This study shows how it can be prevented by reducing insulin infusion on an insulin pump.

Perspectives

This is a starting point suggestion for people wanting to exercise without having to ingest carbohydrates.
