What is it about?

It is evident that advanced automotive thermal management systems improve engine performance and ensure minimization of fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions. In this paper, intelligent control techniques are developed to investigate additional improvements in the cooling system transient response and to explore new methods of control. A neural network controller, fuzzy controller, and neuro-fuzzy controller have been designed and tested to regulate the engine temperature and minimize the system components’ power consumption satisfactorily. Comprehensive numerical simulations are introduced in this paper to exhibit the proposed intelligent controllers’ performance. Moreover, a performance comparison with another controller in the literature is presented to investigate the robustness and reliability of the developed intelligent controllers.
