What is it about?
Mark's "certain man" (of 10:17-22) displays a deficient, emotional faith throughout his encounter with Jesus. The proposed intertextuality with Malachi illuminates his failure in its Markan cotext. In this vein, it further posits a new avenue of interpretation for his "falling" in the Lord's presence.

Scholarship has not adequately addressed Jesus's "addition" to the Decalogue in Mark 10:19 ("Do not defraud").

I enjoy exploring the potential significance of emotional experiences in Scripture, especially in the Gospel of Mark. Though emotion theory is not central to this article, I offer brief commentary on the so-called emotion of Jesus's "love" (Mark 10:21).
