What is it about?
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) can be derived from many sources. We derived MSC from human umbilcal cord and proved that it promoted corneal epithelial growth and functions. The cornea is the outermost part of the eye which allows light to enter and ensures the clarity of vision. This is an important strategy for regenerating and healing of corneal epithelia.

Why is it important?
He we showed MSC effects in different types of cultures; indirect and direct cultures with an immortalised corneal epithelial cell line. We evaluated this effect on multiple functional assays to support regenerative and wound healing capacity of the corneal epithelia.
