What is it about?
Regeneration of peripheral nerves sometimes requires the support of biomaterials, expecially for long nerve gap. This is a medical need. Their use, implant surgical procedure and clinical outcomes may be improved by the application of pro-regenerative drugs. We already proved that GABA and ALLO have a biological role in peripheral nerve. We produced a silk fibroin biomaterial functionalized with GABA and/or allopregnanolone exhibiting promising biological properties

Why is it important?
The implementation of silk fibroin biomaterial with GABA and/or allopregnanolone drugs may be useful to improve biofunctional regeneration of peripheral nerves.
