What is it about?
Antipsychotic drugs can influence host epigenetics. Methylation is one of the signatures of epigenetic response. In the study it is demonstrated that Antipsychotic drugs alters the host methylation through the influence of methylation maintenance genes. This alteration of methylation maintenance genes is mediated by the micro RNA that target these genes under the influence of Antipsychotic drugs.

Why is it important?
It is important as some of the observation made might help in distinguishing the role of epigenetic response in pathogenesis of schizophrenia from drug response. Till date majority of the studies have restricted on evaluating he role of epigentics in schizophrenia pathogenesis. Possibly this is one of the most exhaustive study that demonstrated how antipsychotic can influence host epigenetics.
