What is it about?
Iron deficiency is much more common than anemia in CKD, yet guidelines recommend only screening for iron deficiency if anemia is present. Trials in acute and chronic heart failure patients with CKD show iron repletion improves clinical outcomes, and quality of life. Screening for iron deficiency in CKD patients should not be limited by the presence of anemia. Treatment is iron in CKD, especially CKD patients with heart failure, it indicated.
