Kidney replacement therapy in patients with cirrhosis

What is it about?

Acute kidney injury is a common complication in patients with cirrhosis, and despite initial management many progress and require initiation of kidney replacement therapy. Candidacy for liver transplantation can further add to the complexity of managing these patients. There is currently no consensus regarding the optimal timing or indications for initiation of KRT for patients with AKI and cirrhosis. Here, we share our approach to the management of these patients in the peri- and post-operative period.
