Why is it important?

The COVID-19 pandemic evolved quickly and our knowledge about different characteristics of this disease is also rapidly expanding. In patients with COVID-19, chest x-ray findings are often non-specific. However, chest CT has an important role in management of these patients. Based on the findings of 919 patients from 30 published articles, we reported the typical and atypical findings of COVID-19 in chest CT imaging. Furthermore, we described the hallmarks of COVID-19 in various stages of the disease, different age groups, and the relation between chest CT and RT-PCR test results.

Perspectives

With rapid spread of the pandemic, we felt an urgent need for an evidence-based report that can be useful for the radiologists and other healthcare providers around the world who are in the front lines of our fight against coronavirus pandemic. We formed a multidisciplinary review team at University of Southern California and will continue monitoring the COVID-19 publications as new evidence becomes available.
