What is it about?
Understanding how such complex surface structure and chemistry works in liquid chromatography. A special attention was paid to retention mechanism and selectivity of adsorbents. Theretention mechanism includes hydrophobic and electrostatic (anion-exchange) interactions.

Why is it important?
Diamond based stationary phases have many advantages in terms of chemical, hydrolytic, mechanical and thermal stability. Diamond has also excellent thermal conductivity, which provides fast heat dissipation and thermal equlibration, which is crucial for LC columns packed with fine particles, where heating happens due to friction between mobile and stationary phases. Finally, diamond has very good biocompatibility, which can be used in biochromatography.
