What is it about?
A pencil tip is made of Graphite which is essentially made up of many layers of Graphene. After its discovery in 2004, amazing properties of Graphene brought “wonder material” title to it. While Graphene is 300 times stronger than steel and more than forty times stronger than diamond, it is the thinnest material man could discover ever: one atom thick! Graphene is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity, it has a tremendous surface area of 2630 m2/gram, it has very high mechanical, thermal and chemical stability, high sorption capacity and strong hydrophobicity, etc. Therefore it is an attractive adsorbent for the enrichment of various compounds in extraction methods and is a valuable stationary phase for chromatography. In this review article, applications of Graphene-based materials in chromatography and sample preparation for analytical applications have been summarized. There is a table in the article which is 13 pages long and fully reviews the extraction / chromatographic techniques based on Graphene. Achievements and figures of merit of each technique for many types of analytes are described.
