What is it about?

Metabolomics is a technology that applies the ability to measure and analyse as many metabolites as possible from a sample. The approach is particularly useful when investigating biological systems where various factors interact in complex ways. Nutrition can benefit from this approach and the review describes how studies in healthy cats and dogs have applied the technology.

Why is it important?

The review was written to provide insights to people interested in nutrition and who wanted to understand why metabolomics was becoming more commonly used in nutrition studies. The intent was to show examples of how it has been applied and also a decision tree was provided to help scientists consider under what circumstances it might be useful to them.

Perspectives

I feel privileged to work for a company that wanted to acknowledge and demonstrate my expertise in an area through committing my time to writing a review of the literature. My one issue with this publication is that the publishers reversed their initial decision to make this freely available via open access.
