What is it about?
Soyasapogenol B (SB), aglycone of soybean saponin, is known to have hepatoprotective, antimutagenic, antivirus, and anti-inflammatory activities. This study is investigating SB production using whole cells producing saponin hydrolase in the enzyme reaction mixture.

Why is it important?
Merits of the suggested method include; simplicity, relatively high SB yield, cost effective and easy downstream processing of products. The current results could be the groundwork for production of SB, such an important drug candidate, from soybean saponin on an industrial scale.
