What is it about?

Alternative and/or complementary therapies for treating laryngeal carcinoma represents an emerging need. The aqueous extract made from natural residues of the pine (bracts) of the Araucaria angustifolia present antiproliferative activity by acting on mitochondria and epigenetic targets.

Why is it important?

The data set of this study demonstrates the potentiality of the compounds present in the A. angustifolia bracts for the development of new therapeutic strategies for cancer.

Perspectives

Emerging evidence suggests that cancer cells display various degrees of mitochondrial dysfunction and epigenetic changes which may serve as a basis to develop novel anti-cancer strategies. A better understanding of how A. angustifolia extract impact mitochondrial function and epigenetic changes with anticancer activity will lead to the development of novel therapeutic and hopefully improve the quality of life for patients with cancer. We truly hope that this will be interesting for the readers.
