Why is it important?

Contrary to the popular perception that nicotine is not carcinogenic, this is particularly important with rising popularity of electronic cigarettes which contain nicotine at carcinogenic levels.

Perspectives

This article was the outcome of the talk on "PRIORITIES IN SMOKELESS TOBACCO CONTROL RESEARCH AND TRAINING NEEDS in the Symposium on SMOKELESS TOBACCO at XXVII NATIONAL IAOMP CONFERENCE". The confirmation of nicotine as an oral carcinogen through further studies will help in bringing down the incidence and prevalence of oral cancer due to this cause.
