What is it about?
This review article highlighted how mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) play a vital role in regenerative medicine, including reparative therapy to the corneal epithelial layer. The cornea is the outermost part of the eye which allows light to enter and ensures the clarity of vision.

Why is it important?
The use of MSC to regenerate cells, tissues and organs have been known to benefit many systems in the body. There are extensive research in this area to explain how MSC play a role to regenerate cells, tissues and organs. Stem cell technology combined with advances in biomaterials will reduce our dependence on donors' live or cadaveric tissues and organs.
Perspectives
Tissue engineering is a progressive area which comprehensively explore stem cell technology with biomaterials to benefit many conditions, including reparative therapies to the damaged eye tissues.
