What is it about?
Calixphyrins are important class of macrocyclic compounds and exhibit properties of both porphyrins and calix pyrroles. Calixphyrins find their use in molecular recognition, metal sensors, anion binding, host-guest coordination and supramolecular complexes. Amberlyst-15 is used as green catalyst instead of hazardous acids to synthesize calixphyrins. Their binding interaction with neutral molecules have been studied using UV-vis spectrophotometer.

Why is it important?
Calixphyrins are important class of macrocyclic compounds and exhibit properties of both porphyrins and calix pyrroles. Calixphyrins find their use in molecular recognition, metal sensors, anion binding, host-guest coordination and supramolecular complexes. Till now, calixphyrins have been synthesized using harsh acids. Hence, mild synthetic strategy is highly desirable for the synthesis of calixphyrins. Its applications has been shown in the form of its interactions with neutral molecules.
