What is it about?

Bio-anchorage system is the state of the art technique in the present day to stabilize slope. In this research we have shown the advantages of using tree roots to increase the shear strength of soil. There is a significant increase depending on the type and the pattern of the roots.

Why is it important?

Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the Eugenia Oleina is not a suitable tree species to be plated on steep slopes. Hence, there must be extra measures must be taken in order to increase the safety of the slopes designed.

Perspectives

This research have given insight and useful information on how to choose a right bio-anchorage system. There are more factors to be considered when choosing a suitable tree species especially in reinforcing tropical slopes. One have to be extra careful when dealing with tropical residual soils due to its sensitivity towards rainfall and temperature changes.
