What is it about?

Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a type of imaging technology that is better suited for analyzing 3D structures like teeth. While it is already widely used in dentistry, its use in forensic contexts is also promising. This study aimed to provide an overview of the various applications of CBCT in forensic dentistry. The main article subjects found were comparative identification, identification by bite marks, age estimation, sex estimation, and facial reconstruction. The results showed that CBCT technology is an accurate tool for age estimation, particularly in the pulp narrowing technique, as well as for sex estimation, bite mark analysis, and facial reconstruction. With the increased use of CBCT in dental clinics, there is a vast amount of data that needs to be organized for use in forensic cases. This will allow the development of this technique to unfold its full potential in the forensic field.
