What is it about?
As nucleotide analogues, thiopurines efficiently maintain control of immune mediated disease. The indication for a large use of thiopurines in the maintenance of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has come of age based on economic and medical issues: (1) IBD management costs fall to nadir during remission periods; (2) Patients’ quality of life is best when the IBD is in control. Shown to achieve mucosal healing, , thiopurines have now entered modern treat-to-target IBD algorithms.
