What is it about?

From almost half a century, findings on the relationship between passive smoking and cardiovascular system showed a damaging effect of some smoking compounda, primarily nicotine and carbon monoxide, towards heart and blood vessels.

Why is it important?

Personal findings conducted on both healthy individuals and individuals suffering from an ischemic heart disease clearly demonstrated an impaired response of the heart when study people underwnt passive smoking exposure and performed exercise stress testing. The main parameters altered were hypertension with transiently increased systolic values, heart rate, prolonged time to recovery pre-exercise heart rate , increased carboxyhemoglobin concentration either in the blood or expired air.

Perspectives

The obtained results were similar when the experimental finding was performed every time in the identical manner and correct measures of the altered parameters were conducted. These observations clearly show that the measured markers were able to identify cardiovascular alterations involving both heart and blood vessels accompanied by endothelial dysfunction . There should be a strong suggestion that analyzing heart rate and blood pressure as well as gas concentrations (primarily carbon monoxide) in both environment and expired air of the patients undergone exercise stress testing could indicate enormous perspectives in the future studies.
