What is it about?

This article examines the applicability of lignin nanoparticles as suitable nanocarriers for oral delivery of aspirin and, likewise, other oral drugs with emphasis on hydrophobic drugs as well as drugs that are unable to withstand the harsh acidic environment of the stomach.

Why is it important?

The lion's share of the newly developed drugs are hydrophobic, which necessitates the use of a suitable carrier for the drugs to reach their target site of action. This work proves the potential of lignin nanoparticles as an apt candidate for such a purpose.

Perspectives

This work opens up numerous avenues for further lignin nanoparticle-centred research circumscribing the oral drug delivery field.
